Principal’s Report for June 2017

East Range II School Report
June 7, 2017

School Wide Comprehensive Improvement Plan
The A-Team here at East Range II school have done a great deal of work with on our school’s improvement plan throughout the year. Although it will continue to be a work in progress, I thank our staff for going the extra miles and for their dedication to our students’ education. We will be meeting together on Friday, June 16 and again on Monday, June 19 to once again review what we have accomplished and adjust what we need to. We will continue our data analysis and make plans to further improvements during the next school year.

The slide show and materials presented to the board, shows our students’ and staffs’ accomplishments. Students are making gains in both math and reading. We are looking forward to continuing our work with literacy coach Brittany Arbo to keep our improvements moving forward.

Our DOE/Priority coach, Al Pfieffer and literacy coach Brittany Arbo will be visiting our school next Friday, June 16. Their continued support in our efforts to reach our goal of every student being proficient and beyond have been instrumental to our success.

At WIN time our students are receiving one-on-one and small group interventions, as supported by our these intervention methods have helped our students make forward progress. We are analyzing our approach to interventions and will make the necessary changes so that they are more focused to the individual needs of the students.

We have identified students who need assistance in their organizational skills. This helps the students get ready for the day and to know what assignments they are required to do. The students check-in and check-out with Mrs. Kennedy. Unfortunately, some students have chosen not to continue this process. However, the ones that have stuck with it are making academic gains and working on habits of mind.

Professional Learning Committee/Team Meeting
At our next PLC/Team meeting we will be wrapping up for this school year and plan for next year.
We will implementing a new reading/writing program (Lucy Calkin), update RTI protocol, JumpRope grading program, and proficiency based grading. So as you can see, although we have made positive changes, there still is a lot to do to bring us in line with the Maine Common Core Standards.

Recognition of Teaching Staff
Our teaching staff here at ERII is diverse and has been working to a more cohesive implementation of our academic and intervention improvement. We have had a few bumps in the road, however, I have witnessed both students and staff rise to the challenge. With future planned professional development, and our continued work with the literacy coach, it will come to fruition.

Graduation and Academic & Sports Awards
On Thursday, June 15, 2017, we are holding our academic & sports awards, as well as the 8th grade graduation. It will take place in the gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. The 8th grade parents and students have planned their for decorations and food table for the evening. The community is invited to share in their accomplishments.

Through the small rural schools grant we have received LCD projectors for four classrooms, dvd players, one desk top computer and document cameras.

Student Artist of the Month
May’s artist is Emma McIver and in second place is Aaron Cilley. Their art work is on display above the doors in the west entry way. They have both done an outstanding job, as well as all of our students!

Rangers Softball
Our co-ed softball team’s last game is this today, they are playing against Indian Township Recreation department. They have won all but 1 (one) of their games. The parent vs student game has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 12th.

Our t-ball team will have another practice this Thursday and then their parent vs student game at our Canoe Basin outing on Tuesday, June 13 (Rain date: Wednesday, June 14).
